Effect of metabolic status and adipokine levels of newborns and their mothers on mini puberty

Purpose: Studies have been conducted on the relationship between obesity and puberty and the effect of adipokines on puberty, but similar studies have not been conducted on mini-puberty before. In our study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between mini-puberty and the metabolic status and adipokine levels of the mother and baby. Materials and Methods: In our study, the demographic and anthropometric characteristics of 40 newborns (20 boys, 20 girls) and their mothers who were born at term and had no comorbidities at Gaziantep University Şahinbey Training and Research Hospital were recorded. In our study, the results of the planned laboratory tests and the ultrasound parameters measured in the mother and the baby were recorded. Leptin, adiponectin and kispeptin levels were studied in serum samples taken from newborns and their mothers. IBM SPSS (Statistical Package Program for Social Sciences) version 26.0 (IBM Corporation, Armonk, NY, USA) was used for statistical analysis. Statistical significance level was accepted as p<0,05. Results:No statistically significant correlations were detected between the hormonal profile of newborns (FSH LH E2/Testosterone) and the adipokines and kisspeptin levels of newborns and mothers (p>0.05). A positive, moderately strong and statistically significant correlation was detected between the adipokine levels of the newborns and the adipokine levels of the mothers (leptin r=0.523, p=0.001) (adiponectin r=0.417, p=0.007) (kisspeptin r=0.590, p<0.001). ). There were positive, moderately strong and statistically significant correlations between TK values of newborns and their mothers' TK, HDL and LDL values (r=0.550, p<0.001, r=0.546, p<0.001 and r=0.534, respectively). p<0.001) was detected. A positive, moderately strong and statistically significant correlation was detected between men's testosterone values and mothers' triglyceride values (r=0.470, p=0.037). FSH and LH values in male patients were found to be statistically significantly higher than in females (p<0.001 and p=0.012, respectively). A positive, moderately strong and statistically significant correlation was detected between triceps thickness and leptin values of newborns (r=0.359, p=0.023). Conclusion: In our study, we found that there is a relationship between newborn adipokines and maternal adipokines and a relationship between lipid profiles. The metabolic and hormonal profile in mini-puberty should be evaluated together with the metabolic status of the mother. Key Words: Mini-puberty, adipokines, lipid profile, metabolic syndrome
