Abstract (EN)
In this study, the semantic modality fields of the finite verbs, corresponding to "past tense" and conjugated with the morpheme -mXş in Turkish, were determined. While determining these fields, the types of the verbs by means of aspect, their usages with modality adverbs, and their context along with the type of narratiıon are taken into consideration . Foır the determination of the semantic fields of -mXş morpheme and conjugated phrases, first semantic, then context based fields wew wxamined. In the determination of the semantic fields based on context, statements and text based excerpts were taken from various types of written texts. Chosen from scientific texts, essays, stories, novels, fairy tales, fables, poems, biographies, humor texts, critiques and interviews, the usages of -mXş were detected. As a consequence of the analysis made on these texts based on semantic and context, in the phrases conjugated with the morpheme -mXş, it was put forth that not time oriented; but subject (narrator) oriented modality semantics were clear.
