Eastern Black Sea in Mythology

This study covers the eastern Black Sea region of Turkey and includes today's provinces Giresun, Trabzon, Artvin, Gümüşhane, Bayburt and a part of Ordu province. The borders of the region in ancient times were the Paphlagonia and Galatia regions in the west, Kappadokia in the south, and the Kolchis region in the east. Also, Pontus is located in the north of the region. Many studies and research have been conducted on the subject of mythology. There are hardly mythological studies covering the Eastern Black Sea region. In this thesis titled "Eastern Black Sea region in mythological sources", it is aimed to explain both the mythological elements of the region and the reflections of mythological elements from past to present, as well as through the beliefs and festivals in the region. While preparing the thesis, the main source is the works written on mythology. İn addition to the mythological sources, ancient writers who provided information about the mythological elements of the region were also seen as important sources, therefore ancient sources were also included in the study. Along with the mythological and ancient sources, artifacts from which we can obtain information about the mythology of the region, such as sculptures and numismatic finds found as a result of surface research and excavations in the region, are also included, thus trying to support the accuracy of the data obtained from the sources.
