The analyse of Miyase Sertbarut's novels in terms of value transfers

This study has been made to determine how often the twenty-one values in the Social Studies Curriculum (2018) were studied in eleven novels of Miyase Sertbarut. In the study, sub-problems, aim and importance of the research, limitations, assumptions and related researches were included within the framework of the problem situation; thus, the conceptual framework of the thesis was formed. The study was a qualitative research and document analysis technique was used. The values which takes part in the works were determined and tagged. The researcher has read each novel three times to provide reliability of the study. In addition, three novels have been read by five Turkish education experts besides the researcher. The determined values have been analyzed for frequency of use after being compared. The data analyzed separately for each book have been tabulated together with the sentences and page numbers. Finally, after compiling the data with "positive and negative descriptions according to the way they took part in the book in a meaningful and logical way, the graphics of the data were created. According to the results of the study in the eleven novels of Sertbarut according to the values which are in the Social Studies Lesson Curriculum (2018), it was found that the most frequent values are love with 132 times in the way of positive description and honesty with 128 times in the way of negative description. No positive or negative description of the value of independence was encountered in novels. Other determined values are as follows; justice, caring for family unity, peace, scientificness, diligence, solidarity, sensibility, aesthetics, equality, freedom, respect, responsibility, saving, patriotism, helpfulness, friendship, self-control and patience. Based on these findings, it has been found that eleven works of Miyase Sertbarut include rich examples to value transfer to children. For this reason, it is believed that these novels can be used in transferring values to children. Keywords: Values Education, Miyase Sertbarut, Children's Literature, Novel
