The effect of chronic exercise on pain, depression and quality of life in individuals with myofacial pain syndrome

Abstract (EN)
In this study, which was conducted to investigate the effect of chronic exercise on pain, depression and quality of life in individuals with myofascial pain syndrome (MAS), patients between the ages of 32 and 57 who applied to the outpatient clinic to receive physical therapy and rehabilitation treatment, were diagnosed with MAS and applied a normal routine physical therapy rehabilitation program. 20 individuals participated voluntarily. The individuals participating in the study were first given ultrasound (US), transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and hotpack (HP); Afterwards, a routine physical therapy program consisting of head-neck and upper extremity strengthening exercises, stretching and posture exercises was applied under the control of a physiotherapist. The routine physical therapy program was designed for 3 weeks, 5 days a week for 90 minutes, a total of 15 sessions. Before and after chronic exercise for individuals with MAS; Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Neck Disability Index (NDI), Kinesiophobia Scale (Tampa), Bournemouth Neck Questionnaire (BBA), Nottingham Health Profile (NSP), Beck Depression Scale (BDI) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PUKI) scales pretest and applied as a post-test. In the results of working; Male individuals have lower pain complaints duration, routine physical therapy and exercise program applied to individuals positively reduce body mass index, pain intensity, increase in pain with movement, fear of injury and avoidance of movement due to pain behaviors, decrease in neck pain with physiotherapy agents and clinically. It was observed that it was effective in recovery, contributed significantly to the reduction of depression with electrotherapy agents, improved sleep disorder and improved sleep quality, and increased perceived health status and effectiveness in activities of daily living. As a result; It can be said that the treatment and exercise applied in patients with MAS provide a positive improvement.
