Can myometrial thickness predict successful delivery?

Abstract (EN)
The purpose of our study is to evaluate the importance of myometrial thickness to predict unsuccessful labor in the delivery management of term pregnancies spontaneously or in need of the induction. We emphasised also to provide more comfortable labor process and to reduce the using of oxytocin and dinoprostone in patients with anticipated unsuccessful labor. The study was designed prospectively and cross-sectionally. Ninety pregnant women of 37 weeks or more who were admitted to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic in Tokat GaziosmanpaĢa University in date of between 01.04.2020 and 01.09.2020 were included in the study. Demographic data such as age, number of pregnancies, number of births, number of abortions, height and weight admitted to the delivery room were recorded. Myometrial thicknesses of pregnant women who were in active phase and preactive phase MAS (Midanterior segment) and AUS (Lower uterine segment) were measured. All analyzes were evaluated by using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL) version 20 program. Statistical significance was accepted as p<0,05 in all analyzes. The patients were divided into two groups as the successful group who delivered within 24 hours and the other pregnant women as the unsuccessful group. No statisticaly significant difference was found in the groups comparisons of demographic data such as patient age, gestational week, and body mass index (p>0,05). There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of mean MAS and AUS measurement values which measured before and during the active phase (p>0,05). In group comparisons it was seen that mean MAS was thinner in the active phase than in the latent phase in the successful group, while the mean MAS myometrial thickness measurement was thicker in the active phase in the unsuccessful group (p<0,05). Mean AUS myometrial thickness was found that statistically significant thinner in both groups about comparison of pre-active phase and active phase resting-state measurement values (p=0,027). It was observed that MAS thickness increased significantly after active phase in the unsuccessful action group. We think that the decrease in myometrial thickness after the active phase is a prediction for successful action.
