Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study; is to determine the effects of comic books and heroes as popular culture icons, on the creativity of students studying fashion design at the undergraduate level and examine whether there is difference between state and private university students whose studying fashion design ideas on this issue and to their creativity regarding to what extent are affected. Screening method was used in this study. Data on the method, was obtained by literature reviews and data collection form. This research study group consist of 120 fashion design students of Gazi University Faculty of Vocational Education and Atılım University Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture Department of Fashion Design and Fashion Design Department in spring semester of 2011-2012. Five-grade scale was developed by the researcher to collect data for the research. The data is examined to reflect distribution of opinions by the % f and the arithmetic average. The t test were used for determining whether there is a significant difference between opinions of two universities on three topics. From research findings it can be stated that, students have knowledge about popular culture and interest in comic books and their heroes. It shows that students even who didn?t read comics regularly follows its effects on other medias like, tv series, movies and animations. They stated their observations about; effect of comics in fashion, usage on their designs and positive reactions on their creativity. In addition to that students of both private and state universities state their usage of comics in their design even tough statistical data shows significant difference in favor of Atılım University. According to the findings of this study, proposals about usage of comics in fashion design education and suggestions for further research are presented.
