Abstract (EN)

In our master thesis titled ?Leylâs of Modern Turkish Poetry?, understandings of Leylâ which belong to important personalities (Sezai Karakoç, Yahya Kemal, Mehmet Akif) of the modern Turkish poetry have been studied, a comparative analysis has been performed between classical Turkish literature and modern Turkish literature, and the differences because of time and place changes have been shown in a complete manner while paying attention to the similarities independent of time and place.?Leylâ ve Mecnûn?, which is an Arabic desert tale in its very core, was written by Fuzûli in 16th century. Leylâ that means ?very long, dark night? in Arabic has a very important role in Mecnûn?s journey from metaphoric love to divine love by being a silvered mirror to his heart. It can be said that Leylâ is the one who doesn?t see darkness and long night as a transition, she lives the love deeperly than Mecnûn and always carries it inside, she is the real lover of our Mesnevi in its human meaning. The lover that reaches the divine love is Mecnûn who takes the name, Âşık (Mecnûn) by passing beyond Kays. There are poets in Turkish literature who somehow follow Fuzûlî. Among those (poets), the number of poets who composed pieces about Leylâ and Mecnûn in an independent manner is not much. We have aimed at studying not only the ?Leylâ?s which we?ve found as the most popular and invaluable but also their formats and functions of their appearings in the field of poetry. The main poet that continued Leylâ in Modern Turkish Poet is Sezai Karakoç.?Leylâ and Mecnûn? composed by Sezai Karakoç (1933-) who is recognized as ?poet of resurrection? in the Modern Turkish Literature is structured around the idea of ?resurrection?. In his verses, instead of a gloomy lover?s secluding himself in, we see a resurrection lover who stands despite all the difficulties. In Karakoc?s work, Leylâ exists not only for the resurrection in this world but also for the one at the other side, which she?s aware of.Leylâ in Yahya Kemal?s (1884-1934) piece is like a fairy girl in a fairy tale world. Leylâ makes her own journey, goes after the Hüsn (beauty) that she sees in the fullmoon?s light on the water, reaches a happy eternity after a death that seems ill-fated. Inspite of the fact that Mecnûn is not in the poem, it?s supposed not to forget that Mecnûn can exist in the universe on top of poetry according to Yahya Kemal. In Mehmet Akif?s (1873-1931) poem, Leylâ is the future of Islam which Mecnûn, defined as the symbol of the whole ?Eastern Society? struggles to reach. According to Akif, so-called ?Leylâ? is going to clock in fact to ?Mevlâ?.Our modern poets have shown the love in their hearts not only by their poems with the theme of Leylâ but also by those that carries the charasteristics of Leylâ (like Monna Rosa, Mehlika Sultan, Gece) like a Mecnûn and, therefore, they contributed Leylâs of Modern Turkish Poetry to Turkish Literature. In fact that this subject can?t contemplete without ?The Others Leylâs?. Therefore we studied ?Leylâ?s which we?ve found as the most interesting appearings in the field of poetry. ? Comparision that in the midst of Leylâs? that?s all.
