Türkiye'de cumhuriyet modernleşmesi ve yeni insan

In this study, the main target is to analyze the interaction between the single-party republican modernization of 1930s. and the possible changes in the behaviors and ideas of the citizens. In other words, the question is to illustrate to what extent the republican reforms modify the members of the society. By doing so, we take into the consideration, the fact that the singleparty modernization is related to the functionalist form of political religion articulated by Emilio Gentile, while the citizens? behavior and ideas are evaluated similarly to the theory of the civilization process formulated by Norbert Elias. This is to say, we focus on the conceptualization and the evolution of the citizens, which the republican modernization renders the new man (L?Homme nouveau) throughout his/her behaviors and ideas modified by the mechanism of self-constraint.
