Abstract (EN)
When the intergenerational relations of individuals aged 65 and over transition from the traditional period to the modern period, different changes occur in rural and urban societies. The aim of this study is to examine the intergene relations of individuals aged 65 and over in rural and urban societies within the framework of modernization theory. In this study, the problems experienced by individuals aged 65 and over in rural and urban societies and their intergenerational relationships are discussed with a qualitative research method. Phenomenology is used as the research design in the study and individuals' feelings and thoughts are revealed. The sample of the research was created with a total of 30 participants aged 65 and over living in rural or urban areas in Ankara and Çankırı provinces. An interview form with 28 questions was prepared for individuals over the age of 65 and their opinions and thoughts were received. The data were analyzed descriptively by creating main themes in line with the research findings. By using the decoding method, common patterns and inferences were obtained in the analysis of the data. The data obtained emphasizes the relationship between generations of individuals aged 65 and over with the impact of modernization in rural and urban societies. Among the findings of the study are that elderly individuals do not receive as much respect and love as before, and this situation differs in rural and urban areas. These findings are presented in line with the information and opinions of individuals over the age of 65 obtained from their experiences so far. It is thought that the research will contribute to the sociology literature and studies on elderly individuals.
