Immigration in the imagination of modernity (An ethical evaluation)

In the text in your hand, the problem of immigration, immigrant, refugee, asylum seeker is discussed by focusing on the changes, problems, basic thought systems, worldviews, ethics in general, responsibility ethics and the concept of imagination in particular. In the introduction part, after mentioning the subject, theses and purpose of the text, a short East-West comparison was made. In addition, the problem of immigration, immigrant, refugee, asylum seeker has been associated with the issue of Islamophobia. In the first chapter titled "Modernity as a Homogenization Project and Its Shadows", discussions were conducted on how and why modernity as a process brought about " homogenization" . In this section, the Western world's view of the Other, migration, immigrant, refugee, asylum seeker, based on the understanding of human, society and world, Enlightenment thought, rationalism, science, positivism, the idea of the nation state, etc. has been subjected to criticism. In the Second Chapter ("Search for Certainty, The Decline of the Word/Language and Human Being"), especially with reference to Jacques Ellul, the reason and how the decline of the word/kalam/language, the search for certainty of the modern age, the dominance of the world of images and phenomena, has led to the decline of the human, the Other , the immigrant, the refugee. From this point of view, it has been argued that the "decline of man", is reducing men to data and numbers, and that truth, value and meaning are lost in the world we live in. In the Third Chapter ("Responsibility Ethics, Imagination, Face-Body, and Immigrant"), ethical discussion was carried out on several different thinkers, and today's understanding of human, mind-body distinction, understanding of body, loss of importance of imagination, mathematization of the face, how human is devalued and responsibility ethics. There is a discussion about how it disappeared. In the fourth chapter titled "The Waste People and Immigrants of Modernity" Based on Bauman 's concepts such as "discarded lives" and "waste human" and Giorgio Agamben 's "homo sacer", it has been tried to deal with how the immigrant, refugee, asylum seeker, that is, the Other, is dehumanized . As a result, in order to change the existing problems on migration and the approaches towards these problems, it is necessary to question people, society and worldviews again, the ethics of responsibility is needed more and more today, and Turkey, while addressing the migration problem, is primarily opposed to the policies, discourses and practices produced by the West. It has been argued that one should be careful and adopt a socially ethical attitude.
