The impact of Montessori method on child furniture design

The activities to be applied in the Montessori method, which aims to enable the pre-school child to meet his / her needs alone and to enter into environmental interaction, to support self-expression and to acquire certain habits, are carried out in the environment where the materials prepared for the child are present. In addition to being suitable for the child as a measure of these materials, it is produced with the aim of gaining certain habits in terms of the properties it carries. The different children's furniture companies interviewed stated that Montessori paid attention to be able to meet the needs of the child in the selection of furniture on their own and that they act for this purpose while producing. In furniture designs, it is stated that the child's room, living spaces used, attention is paid to the features that support the development. In this research, the furniture used in Montessori education method and children's furniture designed for different places were compared and as a result of the comparison, it was determined that some of the firms producing children's furniture were affected by the designs of furniture used in Montessori schools. In the comparison, it was found that the furniture designed by the companies producing children's furniture did not have many features supporting the development as much as the furniture used in the Montessori method. In addition, it was found that the products designed for children's use in children furniture companies in general were not found to have this effect.
