Abstract (EN)
This study focuses on the examination of the physical changes of the residential patterns of the city of Tarsus, whose foundation dates back to the Neolithic Age, by using different morphological methods and techniques. Historical Geographical Approach and Space Syntax Approach were adopted as the method of the study and applied in the city of Tarsus in an integrated manner in line with the methods. In two different scales, urban and textural; Analyzes such as the development of the city macroform, morphological region and axis analysis were carried out on historical aerial photographs. 12 different residential zones were selected on the textural scale, and these zones were evaluated mutually in the context of morphological parameters such as density criteria and syntactic measurements of space syntax. As a result; Although grid texture areas stand out as accessible, understandable, livable and average-level areas in terms of density compared to organic textures, it can be said that grid textures reflect different morphological features even between different temporal periods. An accessible and understandable area may also have low rates of use of private and public open spaces; In other words, it has been revealed as a result of the study that an understandable region can express less livability. Based on all these studies, in future planning studies for the city of Tarsus; It can be suggested that the use of private and public open spaces should be concentrated. Incorporating methods such as space syntax into planning studies for a more accessible and understandable space setup; On the establishment of the street-building island and building-plot relationship, the necessity of using the morphological analyzes in the historical process more actively and not being ignored has emerged. When a general evaluation is made, the determined morphological parameters cannot be considered independently from each other in the planning area, although they differ in direct or inverse proportion to each other depending on the areas. As a result of the data obtained from this study; It is assumed that intelligibility, synergy, accessibility and density criteria are important criteria in terms of making efficient designs for the user in the space.
