Investigation of the anxiety and fear levels of competition athletes about catering an epidemic disease: The example of COVID 19

Covid-19 is a disease that has affected many areas of life since its emergence in 2020. This point has also affected sports and related factors since the Covid-19 epidemic started and has provided negative outcomes at this point. The purpose of this study, prepared based on the information given, is to investigate the effects of active competition athletes' anxiety and fear of contracting epidemic diseases (covid-19) on athletes within the context of the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic example. In line with the relevant purpose, the Covid-19 Fear Scale and the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale were used to measure the participants' Covid-19 fears and concerns in the study, which was conducted with the survey data collection method for 502 participants. The results obtained as a result of the analysis of the data collected in the study can be listed as follows: A significant relationship was found between the participants' gender, marital status, branch, nationality, education, Covid-19 and vaccination status and their Covid-19 fears. A significant relationship was found between the participants' anxiety levels and gender, marital status, duration of exercise, nationality, having Covid-19, vaccination and chronic disease. In parallel with all these results, positive and significant relationships were determined in our study between anxiety and fear of catching COVID-19, between individual anxiety and socialization, and between socialization anxiety and fear of Covid-19. It is thought that the prepared study will contribute to future research and relevant literature. In addition, the results obtained within the scope of the research show that competitive athletes should be given more information about how to protect themselves from diseases so that they can continue to compete in the best possible way.
