A morphological evaluation on mudanya urban conservation area

In this study, Mudanya preserved urban site in Mudanya district of Bursa province has been studied. It is aimed to document the current state of this historical region, which houses the ancient Greek and Ottoman settlements, and to prepare a morphological analysis study of the region by examining its physical texture. For this purpose, in the first sect ion, the purpose, scope and research method of the study are specified. In the second part, literature research that determines the method of the work to be done in the field have been conducted. In addition, within the scope of the literature study, th e previous theses in the region and the different studies conducted in the conservation areas in our country were examined. In the third section, the method of the study in the region is discussed. Information about the different levels of resolution met hod belonging to Karl Kopf, which is one of the important sources in urban morphology studies, and its adaptation to the region is given. G eneral information about Mudanya's location, climate, topographic structure, tourism, demographic structure and tran sportation to the region is given. Also , the development process of Mudanya is discussed. The historical development of Mudanya is examined from the past to the present, during the pre Ottoman, the Ottoman and the Republic period s . The importance of Mudany a Armistice which declared to the whole world, during the War of Independence, that the Republic of Turkey is a fully independent state and the population exchange process following the proclamation of the republic have been addressed. The socio economic s tructure, and development of Mudanya are examined. Research on agricultural activities in the region, livelihoods, importance for trade in Bursa and social life in the region are presented. Information is given about the process of physical formation as a result of the historical development and socio economic structure. In the four th section, the current situation of the study area is physically analysed, information about the historical urban landscape areas in the region is provided, and the city compo nents are examined by carrying out morphological analysis studies. The analyses have been converted to numerical data and the results have been obtained. P lan, facade, door and window typologies of the buildings in the region have been examined and drawn. Also the reflection of the findings obtained within the scope of the morphological analysis technique, which is the study method, to the field is summarized with diagrams.
