A Kıyafet-nâme with unknow author (Text-examination)

The tradition of interpreting people's characters based on their appearances has a long history. The science of clothing, which involves gaining information about personality traits based on the physical appearance of individuals, emerged as a branch of discernment. Referred to as "physiognomy" in the West and "ilm-i firaset" in the East, the development of this tradition, known as Kıyafet-nâme, entered Turkish literature with the acceptance of Islam. Over time, the terms clothing and discernment began to be used synonymously. Works on the science of clothing and discernment in Turkish literature have been given names such as Vesiletü'l İrfan, Zübdetü'l İrfan, and Kıyafetname. In this study, an unnamed work called "Kıyâfet-nâme," written in the mentioned genre and without any record of copying or authorship, has been examined in five sections. In the first section, information about the historical development of the science of discernment (ilm-i Firâset) is provided based on our research findings. The second section provides information about the science of clothing (ilm-i Kıyâfet). The third section presents information about prose in Turkish literature. In the fourth section, after describing the manuscript of the "Unknown Author Kıyafet-nâme" that is the subject of our study, the rules contained within it are discussed. The fifth The method followed while preparing the text and the transcription alphabet are given. The, sixth section provides the transcribed text of Kıyafetnâme. In the conclusion section, conclusions are drawn based on the information obtained about the sciences of discernment and clothing. Apart from these sections, there is a preface, abbreviations, transcription marks, symbols, and an index of abbreviations at the beginning; and at the end, there is a dictionary, transcription alphabet, original text,biography consisting of words found in the studied Kıyafet-nâme.
