Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the presence and distribution of Enterococci species in budgerigars and to determine the antibiotic resistance of the Enterococci species obtained. Materials and Methods: In the study, 100 cloacal swab samples collected from budgerigars were used. Swab samples taken under the cold chain were brought to the routine diagnostic laboratory of Aydın Adnan Menderes University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Microbiology. In order to obtain Enterococci from the samples, they were subjected to a pre-enrichment process. Then, the types and antibiotic resistance of Enterococci obtained by classical methods and automated identification system were determined. Results: In the study results, 29% [22 (75.86%) E. faecalis, 2 (6.90%) E. faecium, 2 (6.90%) E. hirae, 2 (6.90%) E. casseliflavus/gallinarum and 1 S. uberis (3.44%) )], the presence of enterococci was detected Isolates; amoxicillin clavunate (96.4%), ampicillin (100%), ciprofloxacin (54.2%), levoflaxacin (60.9%), gentamicin (syn) (82.1%), streptomycin (syn) (28.6%), tigecycline (80%), vancomycin Sensitive to (89.3%), teicoplanin (96.4%), linezolide (96.4%) and nitrofurontion (100%), against cefoside, amikacin, gentamicin, tobramycin, clindamycin, erythromycin, TMP-SXT, fusidic acid and quinopuristine-dalfopuristine showed 100% resistance. Conclusion: The presence of Entrococcus species, which are very important in terms of zoonotic characteristics, in healthy budgerigars in our homes was revealed in the study. In addition, different types of antibiotic resistance encountered in studies also reveal the necessity of performing antibiotic susceptibility tests in such infections. However, the data obtained in the study revealed which antibiotics should be used in the treatment of nosocomial and / or gastrointestinal infections in budgerigars
