Muḥammed B. Şâhḳulu Yûsuf U Zelîḫâ (Review-text-dictionary-facsimile)

The parable of Yûsuf u Zelîḫâ, which has Islamic roots, has attracted considerable attention in Turkish, Persian and Arabic literatures. Parables are educational and instructive stories from which lessons should be learned. The parables were used for the listeners to learn lessons from the events narrated, to gain knowledge and to entertain, etc. In this text, which is the subject of this study, many verses and hadiths are cited as a basis to support the religious narrative while the events that happened to Hz. Yûsuf are processed. The majority of the work is in prose and the other parts are written in masnavi style. The basis of the study is the story of Yûsuf u Zelîḫâ, which can be identified as an Old Anatolian Turkish text due to its content and vocabulary. The analyzed work is of great importance in terms of reflecting the characteristics of Old Anatolian Turkish. Its language is generally simple and comprehensible. It is quite rich in terms of motifs. These motifs are reviewed in accordance with tradition. The source, which is a manuscript, was obtained from the private home library of Mazhar Hacıpaşaoğlu in Bünyan province of Kayseri and it is the only copy. In the introduction, information about the author and the source of the work is given, and then language and stylistic features are evaluated. After the content analysis, the sound and morphological features were revealed. In the transcribed text section, the text in Arabic script has been transferred to Latin script.
