Abstract (EN)

al-Ḳawwâs is a literary and theologian personality who lived in and around the Syrian city of Aleppo between 900/1500 and 1000/1600. He is considered a muammer because he lived a century or more. There is not much information found in the sources about his scientific personality and family. It is stated that he took lessons from Bedruddîn Muḥammed b. Muḥammed al-Ġazzî. Only one of his works is mentioned in the sources, which is the book named Riyâḍu'l-ezhâr ve nesîmu'l-esḥâr, which we discussed in our study and which was written in the field of maḳâme. This book contains 9 maqams named with city names. In summary, maḳâme are literary short (sometimes long) stories told by an imaginary hero, told with the aim of giving advice, making laugh/entertainment, describing objects and teaching language, with the narration of an imaginary narrator, and conveyed with an impressive style of expression. The maqams of al-Ḳawwâs are generally discussed at length. Its subjects are mainly advice and stand out with its instructive and entertaining aspects. Thanks to his work, al-Ḳavvâs made his name known among the ulema and found fame.
