Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACTIt is critical that today's managers prepare themselves with a suite of diverse skills andcapabilities necessary to serve a variety of organizations or assignments. In the rapid changeand development of the market conditions, they must be a humanistic, flexible, broad-minded,proactive, communicative and quality centered leader who can take risks and show thepersonality of being able to bring people together in order to achieve the organizational goals. In order to have a good competitive advantage in this market, organizations need managerswho can take them to the future by using technology. Because of this, instead of accountingand marketing origined people, there can henceforth be seen engineeers in the management ofthe organizations with their familiarity to the technology and ingenuity to the analyticaldecision making.Success in performance differs between managers? and engineers? mentality, and requiresdifferent skills with respect to engineering field. Hence, engineer as a new manager canencounter troubles in his/her new career. The solutions of many troubles disparate toengineering origin, like ?subjective judgements, taking actions in uncertainity, distributing theresponsibilities fairly, using relevant policies in decision making? are expected from themanager. Therefore, engineers who made a transition to the managerial roles need extra timeand training to deal with these problems.Engineers in managerial roles can often be found inherently in Turkcell, being atechnological organization. It is crucial for Turkcell and other companies once to determine, then eliminate the problems of engineers that made a transition to the managerial roles, sincethere is a close competition in technology market. This research aims to determine managerialskills needed by engineers and which subjects to be given in order to attain these skills. This thesis consists of four sections with a survey carried out on engineers in Turkcell. While the first and second sections emphasize on the general engineering and managementsubjects, the third section constitutes the backbone of the research. In the last section, theanalysis results of the research and obtained findings are presented.
