The crimes seen and the measures taken for these crimes in Ottoman State according to Muhimme Documents

The State of Ottoman was a religious qualified government. Thus, the system of judgement had an Islamic character. So, any crime committed in society they evaluated and judged according to religious laws.The crime that happened in Ottoman Country had different qualities. Drinking alcohol, adultery, slandering, thieving, changing the religion, murdering and injuring were related religion directly. When punishing the judge could not use his own initiatives. Except these crimes, the judge could not use his own rights when giving decision.On the other hand, all of these crimes could be committed by Muslims, Christian and Jewish who accept the Ottoman sovereignty. Except these, the government official committed crime. The State of Ottoman had taken not only legal precautions but also military precautions. Sometimes, both of these precautions might be heavy.
