Abstract (EN)

The elections of 1973 , due to their being the first elections performedafter the interference, have a different importance within the struggle ofbecoming democratic. Our thesis study, named ?The General Elections Of1973 As Sample Model To The Action Of Becoming Democratic After TheMemorandum? aims the effects of the political atmosphere that the 12thMarch 1971 interference revealed for the elections of 1973 and Turkishpolitical living.In the first part of our thesis, first of all 12th March interference havebeen generally evaluated and the analysis of the internal and externaldevelopments which caused the intervention have been tried to perform. Inthis part, the changing occurred after 12th March interference and thereactions against the interference have also been searched. The changingrevealed after the interference has especially searched in the aspect of theconstitution, parliament and its effects for the law of election.In the second part of our thesis, the political parties participated in theelections have been tried to get searched in the light of the incidentsincreased following the interference of 27th May 1960. Concerning AP, CHP,MSP, TBP, MP, MHP, CGP and DP; the opinions of these parties, theinternal debate and faction that they came face to face, their generalassemblies of party, and the subjects like changing their party leaders havebeen tried to get evaluated mainly. Furthermore, the stages that thementioned parties participated in the elections performed in the progresstowards the elections of 1973 and their attitudes against the 12th Marchinterference have been investigated in this part, too.In the third part, the programs of the eight political parties thatparticipated in the election have been studied in detail and their opinionabout economics, health, national education, agriculture, external politicshave been evaluated comparatively. With the same method, the electiondeclarations of these that they had prepared before the elections of 1973have also been tried to get examined and inspected at the point that they hadpromised. In this part of our thesis, the election campaigns that the partieshad prepared , the slogans they used, their election trips and the speeches ofthe political party leaders have been determined by scanning the newspaperand magazines of that term carefully. The predictions performed about theelections and the evaluations have also existed in this part.In the fourth and final part of our thesis, the results of elections havebeen evaluated generally in Turkey and based on the provinces according tothe regions. In accordance to the data that State Institute of Statisticsdeclared; the tables and diagrams have been performed, their analysis havebeen carried out and the situation of the parties have been determined. Inthis part of our thesis, the structure of the Turkish Grand National Assemblyappeared after the elections of 1973 and the profile of deputies have beenresearched in detail. The occupational position of the deputies, theireducational positions, and the foreign languages that they could speak, etc.have been evaluated as based on the parties, and they have also beenexpressed with the tables and graphics.
