İçmen,D. Comparasion of Multifrequency Tympanometry Measurements in Children With Serous Otitis Media and Healty Children, Başkent Üniversity, İnstitue of Health Sciences M. Sc. Thesis in Audiology and Speech-Voice Disorders, 2014 AIM: The aim of this study is revealing resonance frequency for serous otitis media by using multifrequency tympanometry and comparing this results with data obtained from normal ears. Thus, it is aimed to reveal the tympanometric differences peculiar to the serous otitis media. In addition to this researches, by analysing age, gender, height and weight, condition of the tympanum, middle ear fluid (otitis media) type and position of tympanum; within the light of these findings, it has been researched what kind of alterations will take place at the multi frequency tympanometry merging with middle ear otitis. MATERIAL METHOD: A test made to 131 (262 ears) volunteer kid in total between the age of 2-10 age range at Başkent University Department of Otolaryngology and Audiology and Speech Disorder Unitary. 65 children, diagnosed with serous otitis media and decided to tube placement, are included to the study group and 66 children, who has got healthy ears as a result of the autoscopy examens and hasn't got an operation before, are included to the control group. Immitancemetric measurements of the participants has been realised by using Grason Stadler (GSI) Tympstar Version 2 electroacoustic immitancemetre. FINDINGS: Both ears resonance frequency of those analysed children who has got serous otitis media are seen quite low by comparison with control group. (p< 0,05) The multifrequency tympanometry value of the study group's right ear average is defined as 502,3 and left ear average is defined as 494,9. Control group's right ear average is defined as 924,3 and left ear average is defined as 921,3. From the point of gender, height and weight for both group, a significance difference hasn't been observed. (p>0,05) Besides, from the operation data no difference has been seen on just for the liquid levels. (p>0,05) Apart from this, a significance connection between all the findings and multifrequence measurement results. (p< 0,05) İn conclusion, multifrequency tympanometry is an advantageous test method that can perform measurement in 226Hz and 2000Hz probe tone wide spectral multifrequency tympanometry is obtained higher or lower according to the pathology at the tympanum rather than the measurement obtained from the healthy ear. In many aspects, multifrequency tympanometry which is an advantageous test hasn't been used widely yet, also the number of the ongoing studies is limited. Because of this reason, no adequate data are available. Starting from this point, it is aimed to popularise the usage by providing a criterion as a screening test for multifrequency tympanometry measurement. Besides, it is hoped that our study will create substructure for different of pathologies. Key words:Multifrequency Tympanometry, middle ear, serous otitis media, children,
