The role of multimedia applications on the learning foreign languages: The sample an interactive CD proposal

Rapidly evolving technology is affecting and changing every aspect of life significantly today. Depending on the developing technology, education is one of the changing and evolving fields. Today, computer technology is more frequently and effectively used in the field of education for more qualified education. From science to social sciences, from fine arts to language learning, technology is being effectively assessed. Technology is mostly used in the field of education through computers. Multimedia applications have taken place in education as well as computers have acquired a place in education. Instead of the undeniable place of technology in education, the biggest problem in this area is the issue of preparing technology based education material. In this study, which is aimed to prepare a training material based on technology, the factors affecting learning, the literature related to learning principles and strategies and teaching techniques were examined primarily. Later on, resources were searched for strategies, techniques, approaches and methods used in foreign language teaching and foreign language teaching. Finally, by searching for the teaching technology and the multimedia system, the issues to be considered in the sample multimedia application prepared within the scope of this study have been determined. The matter of material that was prepared was selected as a foreign language (English) learning, which constitutes a major obstacle for many academics in our country. In this multimedia application called "The Dictionary of Illustrated Conjunctions for YDS", 53 conjunctions in the application section of the thesis work have been identified considering the previously asked questions in the Foreign Language Examination held in Turkey. Then the selected conjunctions are visualized in terms of word teaching methods and graphic design principles. Stories of the images prepared in computer environment were voiced and an interactive multimedia application was made. The output of the work was made into an interactive CD. With this work, "The Dictionary of Illustrated Conjunctions for YDS" academic and academicals candidates preparing for YDS are aimed to learn the Turkish meanings of English Conjunctions. It is also aimed that the study will be an ancillary resource for technology-based instructional materials to be prepared for language teaching. The application study made with this research presents a proposal for similar researches to be made thereafter.
