Abstract (EN)

Introduction: Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic disease that appears in early adult life, causing neurological disability and physical, psychological, social problems that impaires quality of life. EDSS, which is the most widespared scale in measuring disability, measures ambulation, but doesn?t reflect other neurologic function disabilities adequately. MSFC was developed in order to eliminate the pre-called deficiencies, which evaluates the functions of the upper and lower ekstremities and cognition. On the other hand, the use of the scales for quality of life is in increase in recent years for following the patients and evaluating the effects of the treatment. MusiQoL; is a measure of life quality spesific to MS, which has been lately developed and is still in validity and reliability testing process by a multi-centered study in which Turkey is also involved. So far, no official research has been published about MSFC and MusiQoL correlation. In this thesis study, it is aimed to search for the correlation of two scales in MS patients and to asist data aggregation in the emphasised topic.Method: In our research; MSFC, MusiQoL and EDSS, HAM-D, FSS, SMMT was applied to 32 patient who had ?definite MS? diagnosis according to McDonald?s criterions, EDSS ? 6,5 (average: 2.51±1.85) and the correlation was investigated between them. Results: The weak but meaningful relationship (r: 0.355) between the total scores of MusiQoL and MSFC was established. The impairment of quality of life was observed to happen because of the lose of upper extremity function. There was a relation found between MusiQoL and EDSS (r: -0.368). A stronger correlation between MusiQoL and HAM-D with FSS (r: -0.552, -0. 533). There was no meaningful relation with SMMT.Conclusion: The unique life quality scale of MS, MusiQoL and the disability scale MSFC shows the same correlations. However, they don?t measure the same matters. With these reasons using those two scales would be worthwhile for following and treating the MS patients.
