Abstract (EN)

The coherence between the surahs and verses of the Qur'an, which challenges all Mankind to bring a similar book if they can, is one of the main aspects of its inimitability. Since the Holy Qur'an was revealed, scholars have studied it extensively to analyse the harmony between its surahs and verses. One of these endeavors is the contemporary commentary by Mohammed İzzet Derveze. By following the chronological order of the revelation, Derveze aimed to have a better understanding to explore and live the historical context and conditions of the revelation. The importance he laid to the science of coherence is revealed in his stands towards the narrations of occasions of revelation as he accepts or rejects and refutes them based on the context. He also rejected some of the opinions and narrations about the verse to be a Meccan or Medinian based on their coherence with the context. In addition, he has adopted a unique methodology to interpret the verse in accordance with the spirit of the surah by going beyond the apparent meaning in some cases and giving a different understanding more appropriate with the context.
