The work of Münif Pasha's İlm-i Belâgat- La Rhètorique(Revi̇ew- transcribed text- facsimile edition)

The Tanzimat period is a period of progress and development in all field. The science of poetry has also had its share. The idea of classical rhetoric is now started to replace by Western rhetoric. The subject of the thesis is a work which is one of the first works written with this new understanding. This work is a book called "İlm-i Belâgat- La Rhétorique" written by Munif Pas- ha, who was an Ottoman intellectual lived in the 19th century. There is no information about when the work has been written on the examined copy of the work that is thought to be a copy of the author. However, in the researches on the subject, it was understood that the work in question was used as a textbook during the rhetoric lessons of Münif Pasha during 1878-1880. Therefore, it is estimated that the work could be written at the end of the 1870s. In this thesis, this book which consists of 34 folios was translated into Turkish and the content of the book was examined. This thesis consists of five main chapters. In the introduction part; the scope, importance, method and limitations of the study are discussed. In the second chapter; the information about the rhetoric in the Turkish literature was given, definition, history of rhetoric and relationship between declamation and rhetoric and the rhetoric books written in 19th century were mentioned. In the third part; after giving information about the biography and works of Münif Pasha, the pyhsical characteristics of the work which is studied was explained and the content of the work, the terms of declamation and rehetoric used in the work are examined. In the fourth chapter; the translation text of the work is given. In the last chapter; the obtained data about how the tradition of nine centuries-old rhetoric has been broken, how it has changed and how the Western rhetoric was adapted to Turkish literature are evaulated.
