Effects of the Munzur river projects: A study of the public administration

The increase of population in the world, along with the development of technology and industry every day, has highlighted the need for energy. Since the industrial revolution, the need of energy has been trying to solve primarily by generating energy from the ―force of water‖, the sources of energy production has started to diversify because of the continuous increase in need. In order to meet the need of energy, first Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP)'s established, Thermal Power Plants which is based on fossil fuels, and Natural Gas Power Plant had been activated. Energy problem trying to be solved in the world, global warming and ozone depletion, have led states to seek new sources. States also do not have energy raw materials in own geography like Turkey, be addicted to importing countries which is a kind of risk about raw materials. For these reason states have turned renewable energy like wind, solar, geothermal, wave energy resources which can be found every country. In Turkey HPP's were made, as a priority in order to meet the energy needs of our country, and still continuous to be made. ―Munzur River Projects‖ is an example of this, which have six dam and eight HPP, in Munzur Valley National Park and on Munzur River. In our study we attach importance to renewable energy sources and emphasized the necessity of abandoning dam projects which are examples of the world. By this study, it was founded negative effects of the Munzur dams on the Munzur Valley National Park which is a rarity park, that in terms of the variety of flora and fauna.
