Özet (EN)

Floods have an important place among the natural disasters that cause losses of life and property. Because of the flood, the water flows from the main bed of the river and causes serious damage to the surrounding area. Residential areas, bridges, roads, agricultural areas can suffer considerable damage from floods. It is important to reliably estimate the quantities of floods and the frequency of floods in order to reduce these losses to the lowest level. In addition to that, floods are of great importance in terms of planning and designing hydraulic structures to be built on the stream. The factors that bring the flood to the field are random variables. For this reason, statistical methods are used in the study of floods. In this study, The flow data belonging to four main observation stations (Palu, Akkonak, Tutak and Diyadin) on Murat river, which is a streamline of the Euphrates river having the greatest flow rate among the rivers in Turkey and two flow observation stations (Malabadi and Sinan) in Batman stream which is a streamline of Tigris river has been analyzed statistically. After applying the independence tests by examining the conformity of the obtained results to the distributions, the flood trends at different return intervals were calculated.
