Traces of Seljuk in the Muş Plain: Yunoren Mosque example

With the entry of Turks to Islam, examples of Turkish-Islamic art began to emerge. The process that started with the Karakhanids continued with the Ghaznavids and the Seljuks, and a unique artistic taste emerged. Since the middle of the 11th century, the Seljuk raids in the Anatolian direction were crowned with the 1071 Malazgirt Victory, and the region has now become a homeland. After this date, a new culture and art environment emerged as a result of the synthesis of the artistic taste they brought here and the regional elements. Meanwhile (late 11th century, early 12th century), the military and political structure of Anatolia, which was a stop of the Crusades initiated by the Christian world on the Islamic world, interrupted this development. In the Eastern Roman, Crusader, and Armenian trilogy, as well as internal conflicts, such artistic activities are rarely included in the period records during the founding phase of the Turkish Seljuk State. There is information about the artifacts in the sources during the reign of I. Alaeddin Keykubad that Konya became the capital city after Iznik and the political stability that followed. In Anatolia, Seljuk works are in many cities such as Konya, Akşehir, Beyşehir, Sivas, Tokat, Amasya, Kayseri, Malatya, Antalya, Alanya and Sinop; It has shown itself with various structures such as mosque, madrasah, hospital, tomb, bath, complex. The examples of the first period principality architecture in the east of Anatolia have survived as eyewitnesses of history, especially in important centers such as Erzurum, Diyarbakir and Ahlât. The subject of our thesis is Yünören Mosque, located in Yünören, one of the villages of Altınova Town, which is connected to Korkut District of Muş province today. In this study, which started with the thesis that Yünören Mosque is one of the Seljuk structures with its Seljuk architectural features, our thought is explained with its reasons in the conclusion part.
