Carpet and flat weaves of Muş region and new design approaches

As a result of archaeological studies, the history of weaving is constantly dated to an earlier time. Until now, weaving pieces belonging to the 8th century BC found in Çatalhöyük (Konya) were known as the oldest weaving samples, but as a result of the latest discoveries, it is accepted that the weaving samples found in the excavations of Çayönü and Körtik Tepe (Diyarbakır) belong to the 10th century BC. The samples in question are the oldest weaving pieces that have been reached so far. These findings show that Anatolian and Mesopotamian lands have a rich and deep-rooted history in terms of weaving history and weaving art. Muş province, located in the Upper Murat-Van section, is located in the center of the lands of Eastern Anatolia and Upper Mesopotamia. The East-West trade routes and the lands of the province where the North-South nomadic communities had to pass have maintained their importance throughout history. Although there has not been enough research on the weaving art of the Muş region, it is understood from the historical documents that the weaving in the region has a deep-rooted history. Although the weavings of the Muş region generally show a similar character with the Eastern Anatolian weavings, they are distinguished from other regions by the different and rich composition schemes seen in the weavings. This research consists of three chapters. In the first part, where literature and resource research is conducted, there is the history of Muş, its introduction, the historical development of weaving with kirkit and a bibliographic evaluation of the history of weaving. In the second part, in addition to the raw materials and tools used in regional weaving, the flat weaves of the Muş region, which were examined by the field research method, were separated according to the weaving techniques and discussed separately. Under each heading, there are weaving techniques, design features of carpets and flat weaves and a catalogue. In the third part, new designs inspired by the carpets and flat weaves of Muş region were made. Designs were made with brown, black, cream and their tones. Which are the natural wool colors seen in local weavings, are predominantly used. In addition, dimensional forms, which are characteristic of local weavings, have also been decisive in the designs.
