Spatial evaluation of detached houses i̇n historical process: the sample of Konya Yaka street

Humans have tried many varieties of methods to resolve their sheltering needs and other needs from the very beginning until the present day. The houses in which humans live has continuously developed and changed with human development. After the Industrial Revolution, the need for housing has increased due to migration from rural to urban areas. In the past a large and only one house was preferred for each extended family to reside. In the past each extended family preffered a large and single house structure, but presently in order to quickly meet the emerging housing needs apartment buildings have been more prefference compared to a large and single house structure. While modernization and urbanization continue in full swing in the 90s, the cities became very crowded and started having big problems. In this process, people started escaping from the city and thus the suburban concept emerged. In this thesis study, the emergence of housing structures and development processes are studied. Historical development of housing concepts, housing types and functions of residential units are examined. The relationship between the housing and housing environment, factors affecting the formation of housing have been emphasized. Research on Konya and Meram are made. İnformation of historical development, socio-cultural, socio-economic changes and geographical structure are given. Availability of the study area about searching single houses is focused on. Location of detached houses on Yaka Street in Meram District are specified and then, these houses were examined, and comparisons were made. General evaluations were made on the basis of the spatial changes of the single house buildings on the Yaka Street in the historical process. It was seen that the decisions taken in urban scale directly affected the detached houses. Technological developments, environmental factors and factors related to the users have been determined to affect the spatial development and spatial change of detached houses.
