Abstract (EN)
The civil war that started in Syria in 2011 caused millions of people to emigrate abroad. Syrians who migrated with the motives of saving their lives and holding on to a new life took shelter in different countries of the world, especially Turkey. Studies on Syrian immigrants are still very new and vibrant. This increases the likelihood of being mistaken in studies where fieldwork is not available. This thesis study focuses on the effects of music on Syrian immigrants living in Narlıca Neighborhood of Hatay to get used to living together. A questionnaire study was conducted with 8th grade students especially in two secondary schools in Narlıca Quarter where Syrian students are concentrated. In addition, interviews were conducted with adults living in the same area. In addition to collecting data on the effects of the phenomenon of music and music lessons on the adaptation processes of immigrants, the research also includes the different attitudes of the participants towards music. Considering that social harmony is the glue that holds society together, it can be said that education contributes like a cement to this social structure. The analogy established here shows the importance of the education-individual-integration trilogy in terms of achieving social harmony and peace. Therefore, the original value of this thesis study; Schooling Syrian immigrants focus on the adaptation problems, examine the adaptation processes specific to the music lesson, reveal the effects of music and music lessons on the adaptation process, and the adults' view from the perspective of music in the adaptation process. Qualitative research methods were used in the research. After creating the necessary background with the literature review, it was decided to use the questionnaire and interview technique. A total of 30 questionnaire questions were prepared and these questions were applied digitally to Syrian students studying in the 8th grade of secondary school in Narlıca District. In the semi-structured interview created for adults, 11 questions were directed to the interviewers on-line. Both the questionnaire and the interview questions were translated into Arabic, and the support of an interpreter was received at every stage. Results are expressed and interpreted in frequency tables and graphs. With this study, it is aimed to produce projects that will contribute to the integration processes of immigrants in the long term. In the light of the findings of the research, it was aimed to adopt the understanding of intercultural music education in music lessons and to contribute to the production of new contents and to raise awareness. Creating educational environments in which every culture is unique and valuable will also contribute to social peace and harmony. Thus, it was concluded that immigrants are effective in social adaptation through music.
