An applied study over the role of music in the development of auditory perception of cochlear implant (CI) users focuses on music and behavioral phenomena that developing in cochlear implant. İn the study the productional music behaviors formed and developed by the CI user were created within the scope of applied field study. Music behaviors that generated have been subjected to a series of evaluation. Behavioral music phenomenon which is formed and developed by CI user is defined as the process of music enculturation. The phenomenon of music in CI and its users is mainly scrutinized in the literature of CI music perception. İn the study two elements are emphasized in order to make a sense and define the perception of music in CI; the perception of music within the scope of cognitive dimension of music and the appearance of general perception of music in CI and its users. As in all individuals as CI users the enculturation process of music is based on cognitive processing and a cognitive process. İn this respect the effort to make a sense of CI music perception primarily starts by defining cognitive processes in music. The writing process develops from the scrutinization of general cognitive music formation to the explanation of music perception in CI. Within the scope of the thesis there is a study process of scrutinization, definition and description of appearance of music in CI and its users. Music perception in CI users is a processive phenomenon as in language and speech acquisition and perception, to perceive and to give a meaning to music develops in a process. The productional music behavior relationship of CI user with music is defined as music enculturation process. The process of music enculturation that is developed in CI user is defined by CI mediated music enculturation theoretical approach which is developed within the scope of thesis. The music enculturation process that develops in CI user is transferred through description and definition within its own theoretical approach. Prenatal and infancy process in music enculturation are defined in the first section. Formation of music in human mind in these periods, reactions to music, music behaviors and experiences are mentioned. The role of education as a factor affecting cognitive processes in music enculturation is emphasized. After explaining the cognitive processes of music enculturation perception and memory which are basic cognitive processes in music are defined. A basic paradigm discussion about what are the universals in music is discussed through the exsistance of cognitive processes and cognitive processing in all individuals and the prevalence of music and music elements in every culture. The second section mentions CI mediated music perception literature. Music is mentioned as an auditory element in CI and the mediating role of CI device in music perception is defined. Within the framework of researches on the elements of music it is defined that; CI transmits pitch, melody, rhytm, timbre and language element and how much it can be perceived by CI users. İn the scope of literature it is discussed that what are the general clinical applications, measurement phenomenon and what these measurements includes. Last topic of the chapter is focuses on CI music literature that handle cognitive and CI user factors. İn addition 'musical signification' in CI approach which is the first phenomenon revealed CI mediated music enculturation process and its theoretical approach is defined. The third section is developed based on applied field study. The chapter is based on two basic elements. First is to create an applied and behavioral music enculturation process in CI. Second one is to define and describe this music enculturation process. Enculturation process is a concept and a developmental quality phenomenon which represent the music behaviors that occur and develop in CI user. The description of enculturation process is predominantly in the description of behavior part but it is also in practice and behavioral basis sections too. Within the scope of thesis the CI mediated music enculturation theoretical approach is proposed in a order to define and describe the music behaviors that occur and develop in CI user. The theoretical approach of CI mediated music enculturation is based on defining of the process of enculturation and consists of three basic stages. These are theoretical, methodological and behavioral basis. The process of music enculturation that develops in CI user is a multidimensional phenomenon. The formation of the process is based on a fundamental methodological strategy. Practice dimension represents effective ways to elicit music behavior within the auditory and cognitive capacity of CI user. Music behaviors are the stage in which effectiveness of approaches developed in methodological and practice basis become visible. Third section also describes the field study through the theoretical approach. İn this chapter it is aimed to create a process of music enculturation in CI user through music education enculturation. Theoretical approach emerged as a flexible and effective approach that can cover every stage to the process of creating and defining productional music behavior. Knowledge and conceptual qualities of datas that occurred are defined on the basis of theoretical approach. From research to the behavior stages of the process reveal a number of abstract phenomena, these are 'impact', 'reflection' and 'process' concepts and they represent abstract dimension of theoretical approach. The direction of designing behavioral music practices and what kind of phenomenon practices they create in CI user is defined with the concept of effect. Reflection represent the transferring of music behaviors that occur in CI user. Process represents the identification and definition that formation and development of the enculturation process phenomenon occuring in CI user is processive. The formation which goes from music enculturation occurred in CI user to the theoretical approach definition appeared with the emergence of three basic concept. The three basic concept constitute and abstract and consistent relationship with each other covering all sub- stages related to the phenomenon of CI, behavior and theoretical approach. The process phenomenon systematically and stratified addressed by impact, reflection and process concepts. Music behaviors that are intended to be revealed in CI user, the identification of the main problematic behaviors that are target and need to be regulate and methodological perspectives that may be a possible solution to these are defined in methodological basis. İn practice basis, behavioral music practices that are suitable for device and CI user accordance are formed, implemented and defined within the framework of perspectives that emerged within the scope of methodological basis. İn behavioral basis it is defined and described that the extent to which methodological and practice basis are reflected to behavior. İn this respect the stages of music behavior occurring and progressing in CI user are defined and described according to the direction of development. Behavior basis is based on the decomposition and classification of music behaviors that occur and develop in music enculturation process.CI mediated music enculturation theoretical approach explains music behaviors occur in CI user, methodological approaches and practices with factual relationships that create these behaviors. İn theoretical dimension concept phenomenon and knowledge units have been defined. The relationship between abstract and and concrete concepts form a logic sequence that constitute the basis of the theoretical approach. İn the study the main element that provides the integrity of giving meaning to the phenomenon begins with the cognitive processing of music enculturation and cognitive music processing. İt continues by defining CI medited music perception and links theme CI mediated music enculturation theoretical approach to form a sequence of logic. The process of music enculturation in a single subject provided a development element, direction and a diversity of music behavior. CI mediated music enculturation theoretical approach reveals a functional potential with its logic sequence and broad scope of definition. Methodological and practice approaches enable CI user to be involve in the process of music enculturation through productional music behaviors.
