An analysis of postgraduate studies focused on secondary education in the field of music

Students of secondary education age discover their talents and support their personal development through their interaction with music. This period is a delicate process in which musical skills are discovered and shaped. This study aims to reveal the current trends and research approaches in the field by systematically examining the graduate theses focusing on secondary education in the field of music in Turkey. In the research, criterion sampling method was used and screening was performed according to certain criteria. Theses that do not meet the criteria determined in the screening conducted in the COHE National Thesis Center database are excluded from the scope. 9 Theses that did not contain a methodological approach and 32 theses that did not have access permission were excluded from the study, creating a total sample of 265 theses. In the research based on the descriptive scanning model, the document analysis method was used as a data collection tool. The theses were examined in terms of year, university/institute, program type, subject, method, model, data collection tool and analysis techniques; the findings were tabulated with frequency and percentage ratios and interpreted. The results show that the most studies were conducted in 2019 and Gazi University is the institution that produces the most theses in this field. It has been determined that the vast majority of the theses are carried out within the Institute of Educational Sciences. It has been seen that quantitative methods are more preferred in research, while the mixed method is used less. It has been concluded that the screening model is at the forefront among research models, quantitative methods are preferred more Decently in data collection and analysis processes, and survey and descriptive statistics are the most widely used techniques. In line with the results obtained, various suggestions have been presented in order to contribute to the field.
