Education of orchestra/chamber music and analysing the orchestra/chamber music structuring in the institutions which bring up music instructors

The aim of this study is to determine the current situation in the structuring of orchestra and chamber music education institutions and other related institutions which bring up music educators, to evaluate the current status and contribute to making music education more practical by suggestions.A descriptional analysis which is based on qualitative and quantitive research methods is used in this study. The study was conducted in a sample which consists of the instructors who have taught or have been teaching orchestra / chamber music courses and the students taking orchestra/chamber music-I and orchestra/chamber music III lessons in the fall semester of 2008-2009 academic year in music teaching departments of universities.To provide data for the minor problems which rose during the study, studies which are directly or indirectly related to our study are gathered, the teachers who have taught or have been teaching in the related departments of the universities taking place in the study are interviewed and a survey was given to the students who were taking orchestra/ chamber music-I and orchestra / chamber music-III courses.For the statistical analysis of the data collected during the study, the ideas of the experts of this area were taken and SPSS 13.0 pack program was used. The frequency (f), percentage (%) and chi-square values and the levels of significance were given in tables. 0,05 was used as the level of significance.At the end of the study, it is found out that in the institutions bringing up music educators, the teachers giving education on music are having problems on planning, applying and evaluating the course. Moreover, the ideas of the teachers and students on the formation, foundation, performance and concert processes of the orchestra structuring in the institutions raising music instructors are taken into consideration, and whether there are differences in their opinions owing to the institution, gender, personal instrument and the history of experience on the instrument are found by the statistical analysis.According to the findings derived from the study, some suggestions are made on the foundation, development and encouraging of orchestra structuring in the institutions which raise music instructors to make the orchestra / chamber music education more functional.Key words : Music Education, Orchestra / Chamber Music, Orchestra Structuring
