Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between upper extremity problems, core stabilization and balance in individuals who study music. Individuals who study music education were assigned to Group 1 and individuals who did not study music education were assigned to Group 2. The study was carried out with a total of 59 individuals; 29 with a mean age of 20,62 in Group 1 and 30 with a mean age of 22,43 in Group 2. After obtaining demographic data, sensory properties, severity and effect of pain were measured with McGill pain questionnaire. Quick DASH questionnaire was used to evaluate shoulder, arm and hand injuries. Cervical and lumbar core stabilizations were evaluated with Stabilizer Pressure Biofeedback Unit. Biodex Balance System SD was used to assess balance. It was found that the pain level of Group 1 was worse (p<0.05); physical dysfunction in musculoskeletal problems in upper extremity was higher in the Group 1 than Group 2 (p<0.05). In Group 1, the number of people experiencing pain in all anatomical regions was higher. Group 1 and 2 were similar in terms of cervical core stabilization (p>0.05). The lumbar core stabilization of Group 1 was significantly lower than Group 2 (p<0.05). There was no difference in static and dynamic balance parameters between two groups (p>0.05). There was no correlation between core stabilization strength and upper extremity pain and balance in Group 1 (p> 0.05). However, there was a correlation between MLSI parameter and lumbal core stabilization in the Group 2 (p<0.05). In both groups, there was a relationship between pain and upper extremity injuries (p<0.05). In this study, it was found that pain caused by overuse of upper extremity in Group 1 was not related with cervical core, lumbal core, static and dynamic balance. It was concluded that individuals who study music should be informed about work-related diseases. Key words: Balance, Core stabilization, Musicians health, Music education Pain.
