Music and media mediation: "Kolbastı" as an example of transculturalization

Musical samples that went beyond their local ties through media are involved in national and international media mediation by means of mediascapes. Thus, cultural codes of locals can become cultural indigators for 'unlocals' from then on. In this transformation, media and media mediation constitute the primary elements to help the local culture "-scape" and gain transnational characteristics . From this perspective, the music industry can be defined as an element that enables music cultures "-scape" to, spread transculturaly and even mediate. Media mediation also helps local musicians include their local culture elements in both beyond local and global scape. 'Kolbastı ', as a regional dance and music genre accompanied with it, was originally created in Faroz region of Trabzon. Furthermore, this dance style developed as a reflection of socio-cultural life of the district and city on song lyrics and dance. As a local practice 'Kolbastı' has become more and more popular with the additional moves from different dances and changes on base lyrics since it started to gain its transnationalism. In this study, we will try to describe 'Kolbastı' folk music in terms of its orientation process with mainstream industrial codes, the role of mass media in music or media mediation 'transculturalism', 'media mediation', 'transnationalism', 'mediascape' concepts and the approaches of theoreticians like Krister Malm , Arjun Appadurai.
