Factors affecting prospective music teachers'achievement and achievement goal orientations inmusical hearing, reading and writing: The case of Dokuzeylul University

Abstract (EN)

Classical Western Music Theory and Practicing lesson is one of the basic course that is carried out of the works that is musical hearing, reading and writing. The knowledges and skills that is taken from this lesson benefit the other lessons which including another professional musical education. In this research, it is aimed that to find the effective factors of success in musical hearing, reading, writing studies and to determine of achievement goal orientation of prospective music teachers'. Group of work of this research that is used both qualitative and quantitative methods constitude with the students where studies Dokuz Eylül University Buca Faculty of Education Music Education Department of Fine Arts Education in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th class in 2020-2021 academic year. In this research it is used scanning researching method that one of the type of qualitative research. In order to determine the achievement goal orientation of prospective music teachers', it is used 2x2 Achievement Goal Orientations Scale method which is developed by Elliot and McGregor (2001) and adapt to Turkish by Akın (2006). In order to determine the affected factors to the achievement goal orientation of prospective music teachers' in musical hearing, reading and writing studies, interview method that one of the type of quantitative research method is utilized and in order to collect the datas semistructural interview form is used. When the results is analized that is affected factors of musical hearing, reading and writing studies of prospective musical teachers', it is determined that most of them prefer piano supported solfege studies, they think themselves more successful about solfege reading, they like to read solfege, they think that mostly effective factors themselves in dictation writing is to hum their melody by other friends, furthermore they mostly avoid to sing in the face of audience in solfege reading studies. When the results is analized that is affected factors of musical hearing, reading and writing studies of prospective music teachers', most of candidates tend to prefer learning approach goal orientation, least of them prefer to choose performance approach goal orientation. In prospective music teachers' that is learning approach goal orientation and learning avoidance goal orientation it is occured that significant difference of women candidates, when it is analized that to achievement goal orientation according to classes it is occured that the points is taken from sub-dimension has significant difference and when it is analized that first and fourth class students, fourth class students choose more than first class students morely prefer to learning avoidance goal orientation, when it is analized that according to think themselves that they are the most successful in musical hearing reading and writing, it is occured that significant difference that the candidates whose think themselves that more successful in musical writing with respect to musical reading have significant difference in sub-dimension of performance approach and performance avoid goal orientation, when it is analized achievement goal orientation according to studying times and in case of taking education to musical hearing, reading and writing before the university it is seen that there is no significant difference statistically
