Evaluation of accompaniment education in institutions educating music instructors under the light of opinions of the music instructors

iiiEVALUATION OF ACCOMPANIMENT EDUCATIONIN INSTITUTIONS EDUCATING MUSIC INSTRUCTORSUNDER THE LIGHT OF OPINIONS OF THE MUSIC INSTRUCTORSABSTRACTIn this study, reaching a general evaluation on the accompaniment coursegiven in musical education departments by obtaining the opinions of musicinstructors on accompaniment education in the said departments and on theirproficiencies in accompanying is aimed.The sample group of the study consists of the musical instructors selected viarandom selection method among the piano and accompaniment course lecturers incharge during 2004-2005 educational year in Department of Music Instructorship,Fine Arts Education, Gazi Educational Faculty, Gazi University, and musicinstructors working in elementary schools, high schools or equivalent schools incentral province of Ankara under the Ministry of National Education during 2005-2006 educational year.Scanning model aimed at determining status is taken as basis in the study andthe data are process via documentary scanning and survey; the analysis andinterpretation are made through methods for descriptive statistics. In the evaluationcarried out under the findings obtained from "Elementary Education Music CourseCurriculum," expert opinions, and analysis of the data from survey, it is found thatthe accompanying behaviors and proficiencies of the music instructors are under theexpected level. As a result, functional suggestions are provided for improving the"accompaniment course curriculum" and for applying a more active accompanimenteducation which would improve the proficiencies of the music instructors inaccompanying.Keywords: Music, Musical Education, Accompanying, Accompaniment Education
