Research on music teachers' job satisfaction levels according to various demographic characteristics

The aim of this research is to determine the job satisfaction level of music teachers working in public and private schools. Survey method was used in the research and the research comprises music teachers working in public and private schools in 2009-2010 school year in Ankara province and 130 music teachers, working in public and private schools in 2009-2010 school year in Ankara province, Çankaya district were selected as samples. SPSS for windows package program was used for analysis of the data and frequency, percentage, arithmetic average, standard deviation, t-test and single direction variance analysis were used.In the research, the general job satisfaction of music teachers was found as ?average? and a significant difference was not determined between job satisfaction points according to genders. It was determined that the job satisfaction was at the highest level for music teachers working in Anatolian Fine Arts High Schools as regards ?Professional and Social Relations? and ?Management and Audit Methods? and for private school music teachers as regards ?Professional Working Conditions? and ?Economic Conditions?. No significant difference was found between job satisfaction points of music teachers according to their years of service. It was found out that music teachers working 5 hours and more a week have a higher level of satisfaction than other music teachers as regards ?Profession and Its Nature?, ?Professional Working Conditions?, ?Professional and Social Relations?, ?Economic Conditions? and ?Social Requirements?, and that music teachers, who don?t exercise on playing an instrument, have a lower level of satisfaction than other music teachers as regards ?Profession and Its Nature?, ?Economic Conditions? and ?Social Requirements?.In the light of these findings, suggestions, aimed at increasing the job satisfaction of music teachers, were offered to the implementers and researchers.
