Assesment of educators on the student progress due to the musical scales that is in the scope of the undergraduate program of music education curriculum on individual instruments (violin)

In this research it was aimed to determine the significance of the musical scale studies which is included in the curriculum of musical education undergraduate program and violin educators' views on the effect of musical scale studies on the development of students. The research is using the descriptive analysis research method by the purpose of the research, followed method, model of the research, and the qualification of the gathered data. It was determined that musical scale studies have an important place in violin education in the domestic and international sources analyzed for the research. Target population on the stud consists of individual instrument education (violin) lecturers in the Departments of Music Education in Turkey, and the sample consists of 52 instructors working in these institutions and conducting individual instrument (violin) lessons in the 2019-2020 academic year. Questionnaire technique including 15 questions 4 of which are demographic, seven of which are one answer multiple choice type questions, one of which is ranking, two of which are multiple choice type questions and last but not least 5 point likert scale was used for date gathering method. These questions were prepared by examining the individual instrument (violin) curriculum of the Musical Education Undergraduate Programmes and taking expert opinion. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, an electronic questionnaire was sent to the instructors. The outcomes were analyzed by the SPSS 21.0 package programme for the conducted research. According to the results of the research, it was obtained that the instructors included the scale studies in their curriculum, the vast majority started to study the musical scales in the first semester, the violin lesson time was insufficient in terms of musical scale studies, various methods, different bow techniques and different resource books were used during the musical scale studies. Moreover, no significant difference was found in the analysis of the time allocated to the musical scale studies and the effect on students' violin performance. As a result, it is considered necessary for violin students to spend at least 20 minutes on musical scale studies during their daily studies, to increase the individual instrument training course time in order to allocate enough time for musical scale studies, and to carry out new studies in order to eliminate the lack of method in musical scale studies in Turkey. Also, every institution that prepares students for the music teaching program should focus on these studies in order to establish the working principle of the musical scale studies from the beginning. It is thought that it would be beneficial to apply this research on each of the string instruments.
