The effect of musical dramatization supported studies on online beginning flute education

In this study, the main objective was to determine the effect of musical dramatization supported studies on the acquisition of basic technical and musical skills aimed at teaching the online beginner level flute education for sixth grade students. It is important that students who will learn a flute instrument for the first time can learn it more easily in the online environment and that the technical and musical skills required for playing a flute can be taught by embodying them. For this reason, presenting the stories to the students along with the music prepared by the researcher for the subjects included in the course which reveals the importance of the study. The study group of the research consisted of 12 sixth grade students (6 of them in the experimental group and others in the control group) who have not received instrument training before. In the research, the "Post-test Experimental Design with Control Group" model was used. A mid-term evaluation was carried out in the 8th week of the implementation process of the research and a final evaluation was carried out in the 14th week. After these processes are completed, process related data were analysed. The analysis of the data was made with the "Etude or Work Performance Evaluation Observation Form" developed by the researcher. "The Mann Whitney U" test was used to analyse the performance differences between the experimental and control groups. In addition to that, "Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test" was used to determine the differences between the groups' inter-measurement and final-measurement scores. As a result of the research, it was observed that the students in the experimental group who received training with musical dramatization supported studies achieved more success in basic technical and musical skills and flute playing performances in their beginner flute education compared to the control group students who did not receive this training. Moreover, it was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the final measurement total scores of beginner flute education etude and musical piece performance of the experimental and control group students. This difference was in favour of the experimental group students (U = 4.00, p ≤ .05).
