An analysis of Makkī b. Abī Tālib's work called Al-Hidāye Ilā Bulugi'n-Nihāye in the context of nahw-tafsīr relationship

This study examines the different surahs and verses of the Holy Qur'an, the main source of Islam, from a linguistic perspective, as presented in the work of Makkī b. Abī Tālib (d. 437/1045) called al-Hidāye. It has been seen that the author quoted from Ibn Mas'ūd (d. 32/652-53), Ibn Abbās (d. 68/687-88), Qatāda b. Diāma (d. 117/735) and it is seen that she quoted from many other companions, tabiin and commentators. However, it is understood that the rules of grammar were frequently referred to and interpreted as evidence and support for their own views and thoughts. Is there an influence of nahw science on the interpretation of the Qur'an? If so, what is the level of this impact? In which types of verses did the author benefit most from nahw science? Which grammarian scholars did the author include? To what extent are the rules of nahw effective in changing the meaning of verses? These and similar issues have been examined in the work of Makkī b. Abī Tālib, titled al-Hidāye. In this context, many examples reflecting the relationship between nahw and tafsīr have been identified in the work. The examples were categorized and evaluated under relevant sections and headings. Along with al-Hidāye, many works of nahw and exegesis were examined using the documentation method. The meanings that the author reached through nahw science were compared with the form they found in these works. The views in these works were compared with the meanings reached by the author through the science of nahw. It is understood that Makkī b. Abī Tālib's linguistic explanations of the verses are generally in line with the views of the leading linguists of the classical period on nahw. However, it is seen that Makkī, through the science of nahw, reached meanings from the verses that were not mentioned by previous commentators. It is thought that this study will fill an important gap in terms of showing the necessity of knowing nahw while interpreting the verses of the Qur'an and the level of contribution of this science to the science of interpretation.
