Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of platelet rich fibrin on recovering cartilage and mucosa defects at nasal septal perforation and to compare if there is a considerable healing on nasal septal tissues. Nasal septal perforation may be seen as a common complication after septoplasty and it may effect the quality of life seriously. The platelet rich fibrin (PRF) includes high amount of growth factors. This material has recently been used at recovering of bone and soft tissue defects. In this study we aimed to evaluate the effect of PRF on recovering of nasal septal perforation. In this study 40 rats were used. We divided rats into 3 groups and in each group 12 rats were accepted. 4 rats used to get PRF material. Each group was divided into 2 subgroups named A and B. In group A, 1.5 cm in diameter cartilage and mucosa was extracted and in group B, 3 cm in diameter cartilage and mucosa was extracted. The first group was accepted as control group and any intervention was performed in this group. In second group, spongostan with antibiotic was inserted into nasal passages. In third group spongostan with PRF was inserted into nasal passage. Each subgroup was observed through 2 and 4th week. The half of subgroup was sacrified at 2.nd week and another half of subgroup was sacrified at 4.th week. There was no statistically significance between subgroups at 2.nd and 4.th week. There was an observable effect of PRF on healing of mucosal tissue and cartilage recovering at septal perforations in subgroups. This positive findings were statistically significant when it was compared with another subgroups at 2.nd week. There was statistically significance in groups used PRF compared with control group, on the other hand there was no significance between antibiotic group at 4.th week. As a result we observed that PRF is effective on recovering of septal perforation. Histologically that effect is stemming from new chondrocyte formation and healing of septal mucosal tissue naturally. Key Words: Platelet rich fibrin, Nasal septal perforation, Cartilage
