A study on the novels of Nazli Eray

Nazlı Eray brought Turkish literature to a great number of stories and novels, including the characteristics of the fantastic genre. Eray's works on these types of works are generally scientific studies that emphasize the fantastic aspect of the works. The aim of this study is to examine all aspects of Nazlı Eray's twenty-four novels, which have been published to date, not only in one aspect but to reach comprehensive and general conclusions. Our study consists of two parts except the introduction and conclusion. In the introduction part, after the development of the novel genre in historical process and its features, Eray's place in Turkish literature and the general plan of our study are mentioned. Then, in the first part, information about Nazlı Eray's life, art and the mastership of his works are given briefly. In the second part, which constitutes the main part of our study, when we consider the voluminous multiplicity of the novels, Nazlı Eray's novels are dealt with in four parts according to their subject (content) characteristics. (autobiographical characters, biographical characters, fantasy genre intensively, novels with mythological characters) In these chapters, novels were analyzed in accordance with the art of the novel. In the final section, the findings obtained in our study are emphasized. The presence of historical figures and autobiographical features in the novels of Nazlı Eray stands out. It is understood that the subjects of the novels which were created by using other sciences (psychology, medicine, history, philosophy) were shaped by the characteristics of the fantastic genre. In the fictions of postmodernism and metaphorical techniques, there are thematic subjects such as love, loneliness, death, longing for women and men and longing for the past, as well as social and political issues, reflecting traditional folk beliefs and humor. In the events given by the magical effect of reality, the presence of moments that make you smile is remarkable.
