Abstract (EN)
The manner of Necati Çelik, one of the important oud performers of Classical Turkish Music in playing oud was evaluated by addressing the improvisations he performed in 8 different themes in the study. The study was performed by using descriptive survey model. The aim of the study was to analyze the themes used by Çelik in 8 improvisations and oud playing technique. The improvisations were also analyzed through an evaluation comprising Çelik's way of using positions in performing oud and the ornaments he used. In the light of these analyses, Çelik was found to perform improvisations in different chords. Forming sentences that comply with the structure of traditional Turkish music, exhibiting agility with swiftly used plectrums and preferring closed positions with his handling of keyboard are the characteristics coming to the forefront in his manner. It was noted that he especially used techniques specific to Turkish music such as grace note, glissando and vibrato efficiently within the scope of his own manner in the ornaments he performed in his improvisations. It was concluded that the improvisations Çelik performed in 8 different themes were in accordance with the traditional theme understanding of Turkish music and that Çelik had a unique style in playing oud.
