Abstract (EN)
The Tulip Period of the Ottoman Empire (1718-1730) is the period in whichthe first steps had been taken to adopt European practices in the process ofwesternization. These years reflect a time period which was spent with pleasure andentertainment in the newly adopted lifestyle. Nedûm, with his poems, became themost important and the most influential poet of the period.This project includes an eighteen chaptered research about the components ofthe social life in the Tulip Period at Nedûm?s Diwan. In the first chapter, startingfrom the sultan and the people next to him to the people from various occupations areall discussed. Those personalities were the most apparent people of their time.The entertainment life in the Tulip Period is mentioned in the second chapter.The most important place of the entertainment life was the council. The passingglasses from hand to hand and the wine that was served in pubs are the mostgorgeous components.In the third chapter meals, especially the desserts are focused on. Theseevaluated components effectively reflect the perspective of entertainment in theTulip Period.Architectual developments such as the building of mosques, bridges,fountains, pools are mentioned as construction activities of the period in the forthchapter. Those constructions that have an important place in Tulip Period are theplaces where social life was intensively spent.In the fifth chapter clothing, in the sixth chapter weapons of war arediscussed. Until the eleventh chapter the materials that are used in daily life, preciousstones, perfumes â¦etc. are all mentioned in detail.In the twelfth chapter, the music and the music instruments that take place inthe Tulip Period which is based on entertainment, covered with its importance.Transportation vehicles and measurement devices reflect the features of the period,the games performed in the entertainment councils have been examined and until theseventeenth chapter these have been evaluated. Also, under the title of occupationexperts and some types, various employees in the intense life of the period have beenmentioned. In the last chapter called customs and traditions, customs and beliefshave been examined. At the end of the project, conclusion and biography chaptersare set.Nedûm has set himself free while transferring all the subjects inspired fromhis life and has reflected what he observed from the external world. In this way hehas immortalized this period with the topics in his couplets. This is the secret of hissuccess and the reason why he is better than the other poets of his period. Not only todefine the innovations that Nedûm brought to the literary world but also to establishthe way he portrayed the Tulip Period?s social life is the aim of this project.
