Development discourse of neoliberalism and micro credit as a way of combating poverty: Sample country experiences and Turkey

This thesis which is titled as ?Development Discourse of Neoliberalism and Micro Credit As A Way of Combating Poverty: Sample Country Experiences and Turkey? deals with the emergence process of micro credit model. This model has been carried out since the second half of the 1970s and accepted as a way of struggle with poverty all over the world. The main aim is to put forward the theoretical bases of model and to research whether the model is suitable for Turkey as a way of struggle with poverty by focusing on sample country experiences. To that end, primarily neoliberalism which has been the prevailing economic and political thought of the era when the micro credit model emerged, is explained with its theoretical dimension. Afterwards, the micro credit practices in Turkey, is elaborated by taking both the theoretical and practical implications of the micro credit practices into consideration. The thesis is based on literature review and the results of previous area researches are used in this study.The success of the model which is supported by institutions such as IMF and World Bank and proposed as a model to many countries is only expressed through its high rates of repayments.However, those women who have to repay their credits get into debt from different sources and this leds to deepen the degree of poverty among them and it isn?t openly expressed. At the same time, as far as the poverty rate among the employees in Turkey is concerned, it is concluded that the micro credit model that confines itself to the borders of unemployed people can?t be considered as a suitable model for Turkey.
