Özet (EN)

Intermetallic compounds are intermediate materials between metals and ceramics which are composed of two metals. These materials are popular in shape memory effect and proper for very good high temperature creep, oxidation, and corrosion and wear properties wherever needed. Ni aluminates are attractive materials especially for high temperature applications. Among them the most known ones are NiAl. NiAl which has a higher melting point of 16380C, on the other hand, has not found a wide application area due to brittleness. But the studies on its applicability have been going on. Self Propagating High Temperature Synthesis (SHS), is a production method in which two metal giving an exothermic reaction in ignition come together to form a new material is a synthesis method. This method is being used in production of intermetallics recently. In this study, an intermetallic NiAl was produced by SHS method. The effects of pre heating temperature and compact pressure on the microstructure, density and hardness of the final products were investigated. In the 1st chapter of the study an introduction takes place. In the second chapter intermetallics and nickel aluminates are discussed. In the third chapter SHS and production of nickel aluminates by SHS are given. In the fourth chapter materials and method in the fifth method results and recommendations are presented. Asa result it was seen that nickel aluminates could be produced successfully by SHS and increase in pre heating temperature and compact pressure decreased porosity. Keywords: NiAl, Intermetallic, SHS, Reaction Synthesis.
